Mielke named Tosa Hurricanes' swim MVP

Lance Mielke was named the Wauwatosa Hurricanes' MVP at the awards banquet Feb. 25, highlighting a successful season for the co-op Wauwatosa East/Wauwatosa West swim team.

Max Brovarney was also honored as the Most Improved swimmer and Hernday earned the Bob White Award.

Mielke earned all-conference honors as a member of the 200-yard medley relay along with Jake Shackelford, Will Utech and Ethan Heinrich. He also was part of three school records.

He set an individual record in the 100 backstroke and two relay records, teaming up with Shackelford, Peter Hovel and Heinrich in the 200 freestyle relay and Shackelford, Hovel and Hernday in the 400 free relay.

Shackelford (200 IM, 500 free), Utech (100 breast) and Shawn Roll (diving) also earned all-conference honors along with Mielke.

Mielke was also one of seven Hurricanes to qualify for the state meet.

He qualified in the 100 free and 100 back and was part of the 200 medley relay with Utech, Shackelford and Heinrich.

Roll (diving), Shackelford (200 individual medley, 500 free) and Utech (100 breaststroke) also qualified for state in individual events.

Utech, Heinrich, Hovel and Adam Lefevre teamed up in the 200 free relay in the final qualifying event.

As a team the Hurricanes finished second of nine teams in sectional action to highlight their team performance.
