Swordfish send 18 to state swimming meets

The Tosa Swordfish, the Wauwatosa Recreation Department's competitive swim team, will send eight individuals and eight relay teams to state championship meets this season.

The 12-and-younger state meet is Friday through Sunday, and the 13-and-older meet is March 5 to 7.

An individual must swim faster than a specific time for each event within an age group during the season to qualify for the state meet.

"I don't know if the Tosa Swordfish have ever sent this many swimmers to the state meet," coach Lindsey Gerszewski said. "It's certainly the largest contingent we have sent since I've been here."

Swordfish individual qualifiers

Girls 9 and 10: Megan Krummel - 50-yard breaststroke, 100 breaststroke; Olivia Lonski - 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle; Ericha Stuberg - 100 breaststroke, 100 individual medley

Girls 11 and 12: Celia Ripple - 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 50 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 400 individual medley; Kaitlyn Bukalders- 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke; Erica Kalberer - 100 individual medley, 200 breaststroke

Girls 13 and 14: Corrine Ripple - 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly

Boys 15 and older: Peter Hovel - 100 butterfly, 400 individual medley

Girls 9 and 10: Megan Krummel, Ericha Stuberg, Abby Cabush, Emma Schmidt - 200 freestyle; Olivia Lonski, Rebecca Lonski, Michaela Lonski, Gabbi Bigalke - 200 medley

Girls 11 and 12: Celia Ripple, Kaitlyn Bukalders, Erica Kalberer, Maggie Madigan - 400 medley and 200 free; Celia Ripple, Kaitlyn Bukalders, Erica Kalberer, Millie Bretl - 200 medley and 400 free

Girls 13 and 14: Corrine Ripple, Rachel Stuberg, Ellie Krummel, Alli Welsh - 200 and 400 medleys, 200 and 400 free
