Girls basketball: Red Raiders in search of a complete game

Feb. 23, 2010 | 0 comments

East dropped a pair of contests at home last week, continuing a season-long theme.

"Both games were winnable games," East coach Rob Hamill said of his team's 62-52 Greater Metro Conference loss to Falls on Friday and a 55-41 nonconference loss to Milwaukee Lutheran on Feb. 16. "The theme seems to be a constant for us this year - three good quarters and one that just knocks it out of us. We looked forward to this week to get on a roll and get some wins. It didn't happen. We are just going to keep working. Our kids have it in them. We just need the full 32 minutes."

East fell behind Falls, 25-6, after the first quarter. The loss dropped the Red Raiders to 2-10 in the conference and 4-15 overall. Cara Walls led East with 17 points, and Talisha Simpson had 11. Cassie Osinski had eight.

"We fought back hard after a very poor effort on the defensive end in the first quarter," Hamill said. "We were able to get the score down to five midway through the fourth quarter, but when you get that far down there is very little room for error." East took a 14-9 lead after one quarter against Milwaukee Lutheran before faltering.

"We got off to a good start, got up right away, but let them back in by halftime because of some very lackluster effort on defense," Hamill said. "We just didn't seem to have energy all night. … We simply couldn't summon up the energy to get up and put them away."

Simpson and Alexa Kramer each had 13 points.

The Red Raiders end the season with two conference games on the road. They play at Hamilton (6-6, 10-9) on Friday and at Brookfield Central (11-1, 14-5) on March 4.
