Hurricanes senior Lance Mielke swam to a sixth-place finish in 53.68 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke to lead the co-op swimming and diving team at the WIAA Division 1 state meet Saturday in Madison.
The Hurricanes finished 22nd overall with 23 points. Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial won with 197.
Mielke also was 23rd in the 100 freestyle in 50.30.
Jake Shackelford placed 17th in the 500 freestyle in 4:55.76 and 24th in the 200 individual medley in 2:08.8.
Will Utech was 25th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.65. Shawn Roll competed in the diving preliminaries but did not advance to the semifinals.
The Hurricanes' 200 medley relay team of Mielke, Utech, Shackelford and Ethan Heinrich was 12th in 1:40.74. Utech, Heinrich, Peter Hovel and Adam Lefevre were 23rd in the 200 freestyle in 1:32.76.
