Girls basketball: Red hot West rolls to seventh straight

Feb. 23, 2010 | 0 comments

The Trojans edged host Greendale, 38-36, Friday in a Woodland Conference game to record their seventh consecutive victory.

"We've cut down on turnovers, our defense has picked up a notch or two and we are getting contributions from at least nine girls each game," West coach Mike Pietrowiak said. "If someone is off that night someone else picks up the slack."

Mariah Smith led the Trojans (10-5 conference, 12-6 overall) with 14 points while Molly Boyle chipped in with seven. Jackie Glaser scored six, all coming in the fourth quarter.

The Trojans began the week with a 55-48 nonconference victory at home over Catholic Memorial. Jessica Allemang led the way with 16 points, and Ashley Ballinger scored 12. West's final regular-season games are Friday at home against South Milwaukee (7-8, 9-11) and Wednesday against visiting Eisenhower (14-1, 18-2).
