BOYS CROSS COUNTRY  Falls invite shows team's strengths

The Wauwatosa East Red Raiders had five runners finish in the top 10 at the Menomonee Falls Grade Level Invitational at Rotary Park on Aug. 26.

Senior Matt Schmidt took fourth place in 16 minutes, 29.09 seconds, and freshman Jonah Meidl was second (18:19.20).

The sophomores stood out with three top 10 finishes, as Dan Gagne finished second (16:32.22), Steffen Uhrich finished fifth (17:52.40) and Jack Lockhart finished seventh (17:58.12).

The five other senior runners were Willie Rohrer (11th, 17:45.17), Girard Gorelick (17th, 18:09.44), Sam Ahmed (21st, 18:24.95), Paulo Taddesse (29th, 18:54.84) and Joe Schumann (41st, 19:58.27).

The three junior runners were Tom Acompanado (25th, 19:32.44), Paul Cralle (48th, 20:42.81) and Joe Glowacki (51st, 20:50.96).

The other six sophomore runners were R.J. Salmon (16th, 18:53.69), Clayton Ristow (34th, 20:34.13), Steve Gastrau (64th, 23:19.77), Dom Marchese (79th , 24:53.48), Pete Schumann (83rd, 25:11.14) and Frank Rebholz (86th, 26:35.03).

The seven freshmen runners were Jake Watson (14th, 20:40.67), Joe Rebholz (18th, 21:08.15), John Bruckbauer (21st, 21:09.54), Tobis Leering (26th, 21:41.53), Jack Mouradian (28th, 21:55.23), Evan Betz (45th, 23:41.85) and Jack Blazek (52nd, 25:09.61)

"It was a great early season race," coach Tom Rehberger said. "Matt competed well and all indications are he is right where we need him to be. Willie had a (personal record) and is well ahead of where we need him to be. The talented core of sophomores - Danny, Steffan and Jack - all ran well and will make significant contributions this year."
