Boys Volleyball: Red Raiders hoping to contend

Sept. 1, 2010 | 0 comments

The Wauwatosa East's boys volleyball team doesn't play preseason favorite Marquette until Oct. 20, the final Greater Metro Conference match of the year. Coach John Simon hopes his team will be a contender by then.

Simon has seven returning letter winners in seniors Ryan Hoffland, Aaron Uden, Mitchell Cadrette, Alex Debord and Alex Conway and juniors Max Kilpin and Zak Sylvester.

Hoffland was a second-team all-conference choice, and Uden was an honorable mention selection. Both players are captains, along with Conway.

A key move by Simon might be the moving of Hoffland to libero from his setter position.

Other varsity players are juniors Sam Ingrilli, Jordan Ossanna, Jack Coakley, Pat Nellen, Charlie Gagne and Tracy Johnson.

Tosa East finished second to Marquette with an 8-1 conference record, then won the regional and sectional before losing to the Hilltoppers in the quarterfinals at the WIAA state tournament.

"I'm hoping to build as the season goes on," Simon said. "We're not looking to be a contender yet, but we hope to be by the end of the season."
