The Wauwatosa East girls had seven top 10 finishes at the Menomonee Falls Grade Level Invitational at Rotary Park on Aug. 26.

Senior Jane Petr finished eighth in 17 minutes, 1.30 minutes, and junior Nicole Kashian finished eighth (16:31.17) to lead the upperclassmen. Sophomore Jordy Schmidt finished third (16:55.47) and freshmen Katie Salmon (second, 16:35.65), Gabi Caron-Schuler (fourth, 17:40.17), Mary Gorzek (fifth, 17:54.66) and Sammie Osinski (sixth, 17:57.78) rounded out the seven top 10 Red Raiders runners.

"I was very happy with the results," Tosa East coach Sue Shorts said. "We took home seven medals and most of the runners (and all of the returning varsity) were faster than they were at this meet last year."

Shorts was pleased with what the numbers told her.

"I think this indicates that we will have a stronger team this year," she said. "We have six varsity girls returning and lots of new talent, which will make it very competitive to be in the top eight, which will make the team better. Both conference and sectionals will be tough, but we plan to be ready to challenge for the top spots."

The other four senior runners and their finishes: Karen Koeble (13th, 17:19.31), Cassie Osinski (29th, 18:35.04) and Kaleigh Wurster (42nd, 19:51.63).

There were four other sophomores: Hannah Braun (19th, 18:14.63), Zoey Stefaniak (30th, 18:59.91), Tessa Cristan (46th, 21:03.98) and Alaina Meidl (62nd, 25:02.43).
