Tosa East Players present 'The Foreigner'

Nov. 18, 2009 | 0 comments

Public Forum:

It was my great pleasure to see the Tosa East Players' opening night performance of Larry Shue's captivating comedy "The Foreigner," which played to a highly appreciative house Friday evening.

Uniquely presented in a three-quarter round, the audience experienced an intimacy with the actors that created an atmosphere of approval for both. The 250 fortunate viewers, capacity for this production, were entertained right from the start when Charlie Baker (Ryan Stajmiger), an Englishman, arrives with Sgt. Froggy LeSueur (Ryan Haller) at Betty Meeks' (Magdelyn Monahan) Georgia fishing lodge. Charlie suffers from a social anxiety disorder and doesn't want to speak with strangers while there. Froggy tells Betty that Charlie is a foreigner and doesn't speak a word of English. The fun begins when the remaining cast members interact with Charlie. They include Kyle Conner, Laura Urban, Jackson deJong and Brad Halverson. The townspeople - Matt Daleiden, Christian Siebert, Kennan Pulz and Sam Bertz - complete the cast.

Director/Designer Thomas Thaney worked with Andrea Loss, costume designer; Bob Wilhelm, set construction; and lighting designer, Kurt Schnabel. The student stage crew members, led by Zach Martinez, were responsible for the beautiful setting and effective lighting.

Two more opportunities to see this excellent production are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. Reservations are suggested and may be obtained by calling the high school at (414) 773-2000.
